6 Days From Marrakech To The Merzouga Desert

Day 1 : Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

Leaving Marrakech at 8:00 in the morning and after picking you up wherever you are, we will leave for Ouarzazate. On the way we will cross the Atlas through the amazing Tizi n’Tichka pass, 2,260 meters high. Shortly after crossing the Atlas we will take a track to visit the Pacha Glaoui Kasbah in Telouet. Passing through various Berber villages we will arrive at the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, an incredible fortified city over 800 years old. It has been the setting for films such as Gladiator or The Kingdom of Heaven. At the end of the visits we will go to Ouarzazate, where you can visit the film studios. Here we will spend the first night.

Day 2 : Ouarzazate – Agdez – Draa Valley – Tazarine – Mharech Gorges (Dakar track)

After breakfast and a visit to the Kasbah Taourirt, we will leave for Zagora crossing the Anti Atlas Mountains and passing through the Tizi n Tinifift pass at 1600 meters. Entering the Draa Valley by a track we will see several Berber villages and kasbahs in its interior. Leaving behind the villages of N’kob, Tarazine and Alnif, we will take another track that crosses lost villages until we reach the Mharech Gorges. Many of these sections are the ones that are covered during the Dakar Rally. We will finish the day sleeping in a riad.

Day 3 : Mharech – Ramlia Oasis – Ouzina Dunes – Merzouga

Continuing on the Dakar Rally track we will cross more lonely villages, pass through wadis (dry riverbeds), oases and the dunes of Ouzina. Following the route we will visit the famous village of Khamlia, descendant of slaves who came from Africa, and you can enjoy its amazing folk music. From Khamlia we will take the road towards Erg Chebbi, the highest dunes in Morocco. Night in the lodge.

Day 4 : Merzouga – Erg Chebbi – Merzouga

This will be a stage where, after breakfast, we will cover another of the tracks used in the “Paris-Dakar Rally” visiting desert nomads with whom we will have tea and see the oasis where some films were shot, such as “Sahara”, starring Penelope Cruz. We will visit the village of “the blacks”, named after the slave trade they brought from the Sudan. And after lunch we will change the 4×4 drive for the animal drive. The dromedaries will take us into the dune desert to watch an unforgettable sunset. This night will be special, we will sleep in the dunes in nomad tents (Jaimas), as the Berbers do. Here we will enjoy a Berber dinner, music and a starry sky like you have never seen before. Dinner and overnight in an unforgettable tent

Day 5 : Merzourga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

After seeing the amazing sunrise in the desert we will take the camels back to “civilization”. We will stop at a hotel so you can take a shower and freshen up. Once cleared, we will leave in direction of Rissani, origin of the Alaouite dynasty and first imperial city of Morocco. We will take the road towards Erfoud, rich in black stone and marine fossils (if you want, we can stop at a fossil factory) and we will arrive at the Palm Grove of Tafilalet. We will visit the Roda Gorges and arrive at the Dades Valley, where we will spend the fourth night.

Day 6 : Dades Valley – Roses Valley – Skoura – Marrakech

Leaving behind the Dades Valley by the route of the “Thousand Kasbahs”, we will pass through the amazing Roses Valley and arrive at the Skoura palm grove, where the most famous kasbah in the area is located. From this point we will start the way back to Marrakech and we will eat on the way. It is the end of the route with us and have a good trip.
